Ellen Newton-Driscoll, a former resident of Anna, has recently published her first non-fiction book, which is titled “Haunted Lies.” She lived in Anna for eight years and graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School.

Newton-Driscoll is familiar with writing novels. She is the author of the Candlewood fiction series.

“Haunted Lies” is an account of her encounters with the paranormal.

A Ouija board is what peaked her fascination of the paranormal when she was very young. She said she also lived in a haunted house for nine years.

Years later, Newton-Driscoll and her husband Tom started Parker County Paranormal, a ghost hunting group. Their two sons, Michael and Cody and their girlfriends, now wives, were in the group.

After about three years in the group, Newton-Driscoll said she received a message from God to stop ghost hunting.

“I remember I had three friends in the same day say, ‘I’m worried about you.’ It shook me to my feet,” Newton-Driscoll said.

Newton-Driscoll says she still believes there is an afterlife, but that people need to stay away from the “dark side” of paranormal.

“I got so enamored with the dark side and I didn’t realize it. . .I was overlooking the most paranormal: God,” Newton-Driscoll said.

It was very hard for her husband to accept her sudden halt in ghost hunting. Eventually, he quit.

Her sons tried to continue Parker County Paranormal, but it eventually ceased to exist.

Now, Newton-Driscoll is getting more comfortable with her new lifestyle.

“It’s been hard for my family to figure it out – to see if the change in me will be permanent,” Newton-Driscoll said. “I changed my life and my outlook.”

A goal of hers is for people to understand what they are dealing with when it comes to ghost hunting.

“I’m not judging and I hope I’m not preaching, but I am warning that confronting spirits may open doors that dangerous entities can come through,” she said.

Newton-Driscoll currently resides in Azle, Texas, with her husband Tom.

“Haunted Lies” can be purchased through her site at www.candlewoodbooks.net or through Tate Publishing at www.tatepublishing.com.

If anyone contacts Newton-Driscoll through her site and tells her they’re from Illinois the cost of the book will be $10. Otherwise the book sells for $12.99.
