1,623 tallied in Union County: IDNR reports 2014 deer hunt numbers

<p class="p1">Firearm deer hunting harvest totals were down slightly this year in Union County.</p><p class="p1">Preliminary harvest totals for the 2014 firearm season were released Dec. 9 by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, IDNR.</p><p class="p1">The preliminary numbers from IDNR showed a 2014 harvest total of 1,623 deer for Union County. The numbers included 1,143 in the first part of the season and 480 in the second part. This year’s harvest total was down slightly from the 2013 total of 1,662.</p><p class="p1">Deer harvest totals for other area counties included:</p><p class="p1">Alexander County: 256 in the first season, 142 in the second season, 398 total, down from 480 in 2013.</p><p class="p1">Jackson County: 1,534 in the first season, 580 in the second season, 2,114 total, up from 1,932 in 2013.</p><p class="p1">Johnson County: 1,096 in the first season, 438 in the second season, 1,534 total, up from 1,384 in 2013.</p><p class="p1">Massac County: 344 in the first season, 212 in the second season, 556 total, up from 551 in 2013.</p><p class="p1">Pulaski County: 350 in the first season, 146 in the second season, 496 total, down from 561 in 2013.</p><p class="p1">Williamson County: 1,090 in the first season, 536 in the second season, 1,626 total, up from 1,490. </p><p class="p1">Statewide, Illinois deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of 76,547 deer during the seven-day traditional firearm deer hunting season that closed Sunday, Dec. 7. </p><p class="p1">That figure compares to 74,318 deer harvested during the 2013 firearm season. </p><p class="p1">Preliminary figures for the second segment of the firearm season totaled 24,717, up 34 percent from 18,483 in 2013, IDNR reported.</p><p class="p1">Overall, the total represented a slight increase from 2013, with a preliminary first segment harvest of 51,830 compared with 55,708 deer harvested during the first weekend of the 2013 firearm season. </p><p class="p1">Archery deer hunting season in Illinois continues through Jan. 18, 2015.</p>
