Alice Wakonyo Mbugua

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Alice Wakonyo Mbugua, 40, of Carbondale and formerly of Kenya, died on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at her residence.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">She was born in Nairobi, Kenya on February 25, 1971 the daughter of Jason Mbugua and Loise (Muthoni) Kihara.<span style=""> </span></span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Alice earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education on October 19, 1994 at the Kenyatta University of Nairobi, Kenya.<span style=""> </span> She earned a Masters of Education at Loyola University of Chicago on May 12, 2001, as well as a Masters of Science Rehabilitation Counseling at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale on August 2, 2008.<span style=""> </span> In April 2011 she was awarded the Janet and David Stover Scholarship fund. <span style=""> </span>She was currently near completion of a PhD in Rehabilitation Counseling at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">She is survived by her father Jason; 2 brothers, Kenneth Kihara Mbugua and Paul Mugo Mbugua and 1 sister, Beatrice Njeri Mbugua all of Thogoto Baraniki Village, Kenya; niece, Nancy Njoroge of Dallas, Texas as well as 1 niece and 1 nephew in Kenya.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">She is preceded in death by her mother and 1 nephew.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Memorial services will be held on Sunday February 26, 2012 at 2:30PM at Murdale Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating.<span style=""> </span> A meal will follow at the Baptist Student Center on the corner of Forest and Mill street in Carbondale.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Funeral services and burial will be held at Umash Funeral Home in Nairobi, Kenya at a later date.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Crain Funeral Home in Dongola is in charge of local arrangements.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Memorial contributions may be made to the family to offset funeral expenses in Kenya.</span></strong></p>
