Anna-Jonesboro goes 0-4 in tournament play at Goreville
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys’ basketball team struggled in season-opening tournament action last week at Goreville.
The Wildcats finished 0-4 at the tournament.
Benton 43, A-J 32: Noah Fuller scored 13 points to lead the Wildcats in the tournament loss Friday, Nov. 30.
Ben McFarland scored 8 points and had 8 rebounds for A-J. Tyler Vaughn had the team’s lone 3-pointer. Jay Kemp added 2 points and 3 rebounds. Zach Parr, Damian Reed and Noah Prater had 2 points each.
The Wildcats shot 25 percent (13 of 52) from the field. They were 1 of 13 from 3-point range, 12 of 39 from 2-point range and 5 of 9 from the free throw line.
The Rangers shot 46 percent (17 of 37) from the field. They were 1 of 6 from 3-point range, 16 of 31 from 2-point range and 8 of 15 from the free throw line.
Benton built an early 8-0 lead and was ahead 12-4 after the first quarter. The Rangers led 25-13 at halftime and 30-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
Egyptian 78, A-J 63: Fuller scored 18 points to lead the Wildcats in the loss Thursday, Nov. 29.
Vaughn added 15 points and 6 rebounds. McFarland had 10 points and 8 rebounds. Colton James had 5 points. Parr had 8 points and a rebound.
Reed had 3 points and 4 rebounds. Kemp had 2 points and 2 rebounds. Prater had 2 points.
A-J shot 40 percent (23 of 57) from the field. They were 5 of 15 from 3-point range, 18 of 42 from 2-point range and 12 of 19 from the free throw line.
The Pharaohs shot 48 percent (31 of 64) from the field. They were 7 of 20 from 3-point range, 24 of 44 from 2-point range and 9 of 17 from the free throw line.
Egyptian led 24-10 after one quarter and 46-18 at halftime.
Goreville 81, A-J 41: Vaughn led the Wildcats in scoring with 13 points in the loss Tuesday, Nov. 27.
Zane DeWitt added 7 points, Parr 5 and Fuller and Prater 3 each.
Jared Rendleman and James scored 2 points each. McFarland had 4 points and 8 rebounds. Reed had 2 points and 4 rebounds.
A-J shot 29 percent (14 of 49) from the field. They were 3 of 12 from 3-point range, 11 of 37 from 2-point range and 10 of 19 from the free throw line.
The Blackcats shot 49 percent (30 of 61) from the field. They were 10 of 20 from 3-point range, 20 of 41 from 2-point range and 11 of 16 from the free throw line.
Goreville led 23-9 after one quarter and 48-19 at halftime.
A-J is scheduled to open conference play Friday at Du Quoin and will face Union County rival Cobden at home on Saturday.
