Anna projects moving forward

<p class="p1">Plans are moving forward on two major projects in Anna.</p><p class="p1">The projects were on the agenda at last week's regular meeting of the Anna City Council.</p><p class="p1">The meeting was Tuesday evening, Jan. 20, at Anna City Hall.</p><p class="p1">Improvement projects are planned at the Anna City Park and along the South Main Street area in the Union County community.</p><p class="p1">City administrator Steve Guined said that he hopes bids can be let in the next three to four months on the park project. Work is scheduled to begin late in the summer or in early fall. </p><p class="p1">Restrooms, a concession stand and other improvements are planned at the park.</p><p class="p1">The city recently received a $149,600 state grant to help fund the project. The city will be matching the grant funds for the project, which is expected to cost about $250,000. </p><p class="p1">The city administrator also reported that bids are set to be opened on Feb. 11 for the South Main Street improvement project. Work is slated to begin in early April and is expected to take about 10 weeks to complete.</p><p class="p1">In other business, the city council heard concerns from an Anna resident who voiced concerns about the handling of a recent traffic stop. The stop was made by an Anna police officer.</p><p class="p1">Several city council members said that the action taken by the officer likely reflected a concern for the overall safety of the community.</p><p class="p1">Mayor Jim Cross said that he would discuss the matter further with Anna Police Chief Scott Rice.</p><p class="p1">City council member Martha Ann Webb voiced concerns about mobile trash containers being left on streets in the community. The major asked Webb to look into how other area communities handle the issue.</p>
