Rita Sue Tally

Rita Sue Tally, 75, of Cape Girardeau, and formerly of Mounds, died at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. Tally was born on May 24, 1933, in Cairo, the daughter of Robert Parker and Jeno Etheridge Parker.

Mrs. Tally was a 23 year professional investor with the Illinois Department of Regulations, retiring in 1991.

Cletis Alanzo Adams

Cletis Alanzo Adams, 72, of Makanda, died at 6:10 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1936, in Portageville, Mo., the son of George Washington and Hattie Mae Reames Adams.

He married Norma Jean Braggs on April 2, 1954, in Carbondale.

Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Adams of Makanda; two daughters, Donna Adams and Veronica Adams, both of Makanda; one sister, Juanita Pratt Stephens of Cambria; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

James E. ‘Jim’ Treece

James E. “Jim” Treece, 82, of Cape Girardeau, died at 11:20 p.m. May 13, 2009, in Cape Girardeau at the Lutheran Home. 

He was born in Wolf Lake on Feb. 13, 1927, the son of Clyde and Bertha Treece. 

He married Ruby Morrison on Aug. 10, 1948, in Piggott, Ark. 

He worked for Country Companies  Insurance and he also farmed. 

Lewis Price

Lewis Price, 95, of Boaz, Ala., and formerly of Olmsted, died Monday, May 18, 2009, at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Ala.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1913, in Pulaski County, the son of Jerome H. and Bessie Bagby Price. 

He married Elsie Schultz on April 6, 1937. She preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 1992.

He was a member of Cache Chapel United Methodist Church. He was an electrician and a farmer.

He is survived by eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Franklin Carl Smith

on of Sheila Renee Skelton and Edward Eugene Smith, of Dongola died Monday, May 11, 2009.

Survivors include his mother and father;  sisters and brothers  Patty Bond, Samantha Casper, Erica Skelton, Freda Smith, Nathaniel Smith,  Erin Skelton, Nick Skelton and Paul Skelton all of Dongola; paternal grandfather William Smith of Paducah; and maternal grandmother Janet Lawrence of Anna.

Graveside funeral services were Friday, May 15, at 11 a.m. at the Cypress Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating.

A-J baseball team 11-11 following three losses

The Anna-Jonesboro High School baseball team has struggled in recent action with three losses.

Harrisburg 15, A-J 2: Gabe Pecord was 1-for-2 with an RBI to lead host A-J Monday, May 11.

Cody Livesay was  1-for-3 with an RBI.

Luke Partridge and Jordan Adams pitched in the loss.

Partridge pitched 5 innings and allowed 11 hits to go with a strikeout and 5 walks.

Adams pitched an inning and allowed 6 hits to go with 2 strikeouts and no walks.

Winter Storm Damage Results In Federal Disaster Designation

Union County has been included in a federal disaster declaration which was issued by President Barack Obama in the aftermath of a late-January winter storm which caused extensive damage throughout the area.

The nine counties included in the declaration include Union,  Alexander, Gallatin, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski and Saline.

The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, on Monday, March 2, announced in Washington, D.C., that federal disaster aid has been made available for Illinois.
