County Board HearsUpdate On PreparationOf Property Tax Bills

Union County property tax bills may not be as late in 2009 as they have been for the last couple of years.

An update on the status of preparation of bills which go out this year was reported at last week's regular meeting of the Union County Board of Commissioners.

The meeting was Tuesday evening at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

County assessor Gene Plott  reported on progress which is being made on the taxes.

Plott said plans call for a county board of review to meet during the second week of March.

Cobden Board Discusses Proposed Wine Festival

Plans for a late-summer wine festival were discussed at last week's regular meeting of the Cobden Village Board of Trustees.

The meeting was Monday night, Feb. 16, at Cobden Village Hall.

Local winery representatives Brandy Nance and Tim Waller discussed the possibility of having a Labor Day weekend wine festival in Cobden's downtown park area.

The Cobden Village Board was receptive to the idea of having a festival and hopes to work with the organizers on the event.

Union County Board Approves Courthouse Resolution

The Union County Board of Commissioners this week approved a resolution to seek bids regarding action on the future of the county's aging courthouse in Jonesboro.

The resolution was approved at this week's regular county board meeting. The meeting was Tuesday evening at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

The commissioners approved the resolution which was drafted by a recently formed courthouse committee.
