<p class="MsoNormal"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family:"><span style="">        </span> Martha A. Garrott, age 87 of Jonesboro died at 9:54pm Tuesday January 11, 2011 in Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.</span></strong></p>

Cletus “Babe” Humm

Cletus “Babe” Humm, age 87 of Golconda passed away Sunday January 2, 2010 at Hardin County Hospital in Rosiclare.

Herman Cletus Humm was born October 8, 1923 at Eichorn, Illinois, the youngest of seven children of Fran W. Humm, Sr. and Rena Koch Humm. Being the first delivery of Dr. Nicholas Herrmann, the doctor requested that he be named after him, Herman. He later received the nickname “Babe: from the local priest at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Father Rattermann. He was educated in the Hardin County School System.

A-J scores two wins at Eldorado

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys’ basketball team finished 2-2 in the Eldorado Holiday Tournament.

Herrin 61, A-J 42: The Wildcats fell behind early and couldn’t catch up in the third-place game loss Wednesday, Dec. 29.

The Tigers led 17-11 after one quarter and 32-20 at the half. Herrin led 46-29 going into the final quarter.

Tylor Duckworth led the way with 15 points and 16 rebounds for A-J.

Brady Wright, who was named to the all-tournament team, had 5 points and 6 rebounds.

Harold Clinton Mayo

<p style="line-height: 150%;" class="MsoNormalCxSpFirst"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="">           </span> Mr. Harold Clinton Mayo, age 72 of Jonesboro, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born March 27, 1938 in Bloomfield, MO., the son of Clint Oliver and Georgia Mae Bollinger Mayo. He married Katherine Sue Roman on January 31, 1966 in East St. Louis, MO.</span></strong>

Murphysboro resident sentenced on meth charge

Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, reports that on Friday, Jan. 7, Josiah F. Caton, 30, of Murphysboro, was sentenced in United States District Court in Benton, Illinois.

Caton, who had previously pleaded guilty to a one-count superseding indictment charging him with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, was sentenced to 41 months of imprisonment, three years of supervised release and was fined $200.

The violation took place between April 2008 and September 2009 in Union and Jackson counties.

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family:">Roberta “Bobbie” Dyer, age 87 of Jonesboro died at 1:00pm Sunday January 16, 2011in the Union County Hospital in Anna.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family:"><span style="">        </span> Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.</span></strong></p>

PAST makes plans for a busy 2011

The board of directors of the PAST of Union County organization made plans for 2011 events at a Monday, Jan. 24, meeting.

The schedule of events for the coming year includes:

Feb. 18, annual Lincoln Legacy Dinner at The Edition at 315 east of Anna.

March 11, soup and pie supper, St. Anne's Church building, Anna.

March, date to be announced, family recipe cook off at the Old Feed Store in Cobden.

April 16, "Pieces of the Past" quilt and table show, Anna Heights Baptist Church Family Life Center.
