        School program cuts

If you listen in to any classroom discussions or happen to hear some teachers talking, it’s likely you may find people buzzing about the cuts the A-J school board is making to many of the school’s extracurriculars.

Many are enraged at the idea of the school musical only receiving funding for every other year, and having no pep band to cheer on our Wildcats at the football or basketball games, but there are a lot of people who just don’t know the whole story.

        Anna-Jonesboro Women’s Club celebrating centennial in 2012

Some years ago two boxes were found in a closet at Stinson Memorial Library in Anna.

They were given to Anna-Jonesboro Women’s Club and to the delight of members, many years of old club records were discovered.

There were copies of many yearbooks dating back to the club’s beginning in 1912 as well as earlier items.

It is believed that the literature and records were the personal file of former club historian and community volunteer, Mrs. J.A.(Blanche) Worthington (1860-1936).

        Youth faces charges

A Union County youth faces multiple charges in connection with two alleged stabbing incidents which happened Monday night, Feb. 20, in Dongola.

The youth, a 16-year-old Dongola boy, allegedly stabbed his mother and his ex-girlfriend's sister.

The name of the boy is not being released because he is a juvenile.

Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds said the youth faces charges of home invasion, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery. All of the charges are felonies.

        Landmark event

To commemorate this very special milestone, the club is planning to have an anniversary tea from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, April 2, in the fellowship hall at the United Methodist Church in Anna. The tea is open to the public.
