Donald Lee “Mutt” Dunn

Donald Lee “Mutt” Dunn, 79, of Ware, died at 5:15 a.m., Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Union County Hospital in Anna.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1932, in Ware, the son of Harry S. and Frances M. Foster Dunn.

He married Peggy Sue Walker on Aug. 14, 1971 in Ware.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy of Ware; two sons, Donald Wayne (Paula Sue) Dunn and Ron A. Fox, both of Ware; one daughter, Rhonda Sue Lambert of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Lloyd R. Dunn of Jonesboro; one sister, Carolyn Mays of Anna; four grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

State’s attorney alerts public about fax scam

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds is alerting the public about a fax scam which has been received by several local businesses.  

Edmonds said in a news release that the faxes is offering what is purported to be an investment opportunity.

“Recipients are requested to contact the sender by phone, email or fax to arrange a meeting in a foreign country,” the state’s attorney said.  

“These scams often result in innocent parties providing banking or personal information to those operating the scam.  

Shawnee School District plans town hall meeting on improvements

Shawnee School District 84 parents, families and community members are invited to a town hall meeting which is scheduled in the library at Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. to discuss the new elementary addition to Shawnee Junior-Senior High School.

District 84 superintendent Shelly Clover-Hill will present information about the addition and answer as many questions as possible.

Charles Wayne Yearian

Charles Wayne Yearian, 66, of Anna, died at 10:12 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 9, 1946, in Murphysboro, the son of Albert Charles and Mary Richrath Yearian.

He married Kathy Dirden on Sept. 26, 1986.

He was the owner and operator of C&K Repo for over 20 years, he had a great love for cars.

Hicks helps SIUC close football season with win

 The Southern Illinois University Carbondale football Salukis finished their 2012 season with a 35-0 home victory against Western Illinois.

Former Anna-Jonesboro Community player Rik Hicks helped contribute to the third touchdown of the game and scored the last TD of the season for the Salukis.  

In the third quarter, Steve Strother ran for 43 yards down to the 22 line.  Then Strother added 9 more yards on the second down to get to the 13 yard line.  

Walter S. Jones

<strong>Mr. Walter S. Jones, 84, of Cobden, passed away at 11:15 A.M., Friday, November 9, 2012 at his home.   He was born June 15, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Walter and Loretta Fields Jones. </strong>

<strong>            Walter is survived by his sister, Alice Potts of Golconda and special friends, Reba Childers and Eugene Childers of Cobden.  He was preceded in death by his parents.</strong>

<strong>            Walter was a member of the Landmark United Pentecostal Church.</strong>
