Arts center plans to offer variety of classes

The Anna Arts Center is planning to offer an adult drama class for beginning and intermediate students.

Students will have an opportunity to explore acting technique and theory through games, monologues and scene work.

The instructor of the class is scheduled to be Bill Hice, who has done a wide range of theater work. 

He has studied acting at the College of DuPage, Northern Illinois University, Act One Studios and Chicago Shakespeare  Theater.

Glenda LaVerne Cook

<strong>Mrs. Glenda LaVerne Cook, age 69 of Cobden, died at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Union County Hospital in Anna. She was born May 1, 1943 in Saratoga, the daughter of Loren Carlene and Kathryn Mamie Davis Baker.</strong>

Auditions scheduled for upcoming events at Anna Arts Center

The Anna Arts Center in Anna is planning to present four shows during 2013.

Auditions already have been scheduled for two of the productions.

Performances are scheduled to include:

“The Stories of the Blue and Gray,” Feb. 9-10.

“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” Feb. 22-24.

“Little Shop of Horrors,” May 17-19.

“Cabaret,” Nov. 8-10.

Tickets for the productions are $12 each in advance and $15 at the door.

A season pass for all four shows is $45.

Anna man sentenced on two separate cocaine charges

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds reported on Dec. 21 that Richard A. Wilson, 31, of 120 George St. in Anna had been sentenced to a total of 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on two separate cocaine charges.

Wilson was sentenced to six years on one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, which is a Class X felony.

Wilson also was sentenced to four years on one count of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, which is a Class 1 felony.

Mary K. Eddleman

<strong>Mrs. Mary K. Eddleman, age 89 of Anna, died at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the Anna Rehab and Care Center in Anna. She was born December 10, 1923 in Anna, the daughter of Sam H. and Elsie Hess Dodson. She married Harold W. “Squeak” Eddleman on April 3, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.</strong>

<strong>         Mary is survived by one brother, Jim Dodson of Salem; and many long-time friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Harold W. “Squeak” Eddleman.</strong>

Carbondale man sentenced in Union County for burglary

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced that Travis W. Braden (DOB 08-25-1986) formerly of 713 Bluejay Drive in Carbondale has been sentenced to eight (8) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one (1) count of Residential Burglary, a Class 1 Felony.  Braden took several items from a residence on Wing Hill Road in rural Union County in November 2011.  The case was investigated by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. 

Leonard Howard “L.H.” Weiss

<strong>Mr. Leonard Howard “L.H.” Weiss, age 89 of Florissant, Missouri, formerly of Alto Pass, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at his home in Florissant, MO. He was born October 28, 1923 in Herrin, Illinois, the son of Ralph and Viola (Jones) Weiss. He married Peggy Rendleman on December 5, 1946 in Jackson, Missouri.</strong>

Dorothy A. Stevens

<strong>Mrs. Dorothy A. Stevens, age 60 of Jonesboro, died at 9:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013 in the Union County Hospital in Anna. She was born July 31, 1952 in Anna, the daughter of Clarence A. and Leona I. Dover Pickles. She married Bobby C. Stevens in 1982 in Jonesboro.</strong>
