Arts center plans to offer variety of classes

The Anna Arts Center is planning to offer an adult drama class for beginning and intermediate students.

Students will have an opportunity to explore acting technique and theory through games, monologues and scene work.

The instructor of the class is scheduled to be Bill Hice, who has done a wide range of theater work. 

He has studied acting at the College of DuPage, Northern Illinois University, Act One Studios and Chicago Shakespeare  Theater.

The class is scheduled to start Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. and will last for six weeks. The cost is $40.

Other Classes Scheduled

The Anna Arts Center is planning to offer a variety of other classes for the winter session.

Each class is scheduled to be six weeks long. The cost for each class is $40 and supplies. (A crochet class which is scheduled will only be four weeks long.)

The arts center asks that students register for classes by Feb. 20.

Other classes which are on the schedule follow:

Artistic Beginnings: For Artistic Beginnings, ages 3-7, and Artistic Journeys, ages 8-12. Instructors are Lee Hackney (artist) and Jane Nimmo (artist and art teacher). Thursday classes start Feb. 28, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday classes start March 2, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Cost is $40 plus $10 for supplies.

Painting for Adults: the instructor is Judy Trexler. The class is for students who want to learn the basics of oil painting in the company of friends. Cost is $40 plus supplies. Classes start Thursday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Whittling: ages 14 and up; the instructor is Jim Goddard. He tells stories while he teaches students how to whittle. The class is on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting Feb. 28. The cost is $40 and $10 for supplies.

Crochet: age 10 to adults. The instructor  is Nancy Young. Students will learn the basics of crocheting. The class starts Thursday, Feb. 28, and will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for four weeks. The class will need to have at least three students in order to be held. The cost is $40 and students will be asked to bring a crochet hook size G, H or I and some yarn.

Quilting: age 12 to adults. The Happy Scrappers, Sue Ann Zimmerman and Jane Nimmo, will teach students how to cut, piece and quilt simple quilting techniques on their sewing machine. At the end of the six-week class students will complete a 44-inch by 50-inch quilt or a table runner. The class needs to have at least three students to be held. Thursday, Feb. 28, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $40 and supplies.

Puppetry: Five-Minute Fairy Tales, ages 6-12. The instructor is Charlene Kozora, who has years of experience working with youth. Students will learn how to create puppets and put on a show. On the last day of class the students will present a puppet show for family and friends. Saturday classes start March 2, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost is $40 plus $10 for supplies.

Flower Arranging: ages 10 to adult. The instructor is Martie Paschon, who is a decorator. Students will learn how to use their imagination to select a container for their flower arrangements, the mix of flowers and the tools to pull the arrangement all together. They will create various silk flower or fresh flower arrangements or wreaths. Classes start Thursday, Feb. 28, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and will last for six weeks. At least three students are needed for the class to be held. The cost is $40 plus supplies.

Creative Writing: adults. The instructor is Kaleb McCormick. Students will explore plot intricacies, dialogue, character development and more. Classes start Thursday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m. The cost is $40.
