Bartruff appointed as new county clerk
A new Union County clerk has been named.
Terry Bartruff of Anna will succeed longtime Union County Clerk Bobby Toler Jr. in the post.
Toler retired as county clerk on Monday, Dec. 31. A reception was held in his honor Monday afternoon at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.
Vonda Benefield also has been named as a temporary county clerk.
Benefield will serve in the post until Bartruff officially takes office.
The appointments of Bartruff and Benefield were approved last Friday morning at a regular meeting of the Union County Board of Commissioners. The meeting was at the community center in Jonesboro.
Benefield has been serving as deputy county clerk. She has worked in the county clerk's office for 25 years.
Bartruff is slated to take office on Jan. 21. He was one of three candidates interviewed by the county board to fill the post left by Toler's retirement.
Bartruff served as chief deputy clerk in Union County from 1979 to 1987.
He worked as an account manager for the Fidlar Companies from 1987 to 2007.
From 2007 to the present, Bartruff was part owner of Platinum Technology Resources.
Both the Fidlar Companies and Platinum Technology Resources provide election services.
