Beverly Jean Walker

Beverly Jean Walker, 67, of Cumberland, Md., died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, in Maryland.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1942, in Freeport, the daughter of Clinton Elza and Paula Marie Porter Walker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Charles Walker.

Mrs. Walker was a professor at Allegany College of Maryland.

She received her bachelor of fine arts degree and master’s degree in English as a second language from Southern Illinois University.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the church sodality, member of the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, TESOL, and a board member of Cumberland Theatre and Cumberland Cultural Foundation.

Surviving are one son, James Kristopher Berry and wife Kelly of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Kirsten Adelle Shell and husband Todd of Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Robert Walker and wife Jan of Tallahassee, Fla.; one sister, Shirley Giarritta and husband Nick of Cumberland, Md.; one granddaughter, Julie Michelle Berry of Louisville, Ky.; one sister-in-law, Carmen Walker of Alachua, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cumberland, Md., on Monday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m.

Interment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
