Carterville tops A-J in overtime
Carterville outscored Anna-Jonesboro 11-6 in overtime to post a 57-52 win in first-round action of the West Frankfort Classic in high school boys’ basketball Monday, Jan. 17.
The Lions led 16 -14 after one quarter and 24-21 at the half. The Wildcats fought back to pull to 35-34 going into the final quarter and knotted the game 46-46 in regulation play on 6 unanswered points on a 3-pointer by Brady Wright and a basket and the ensuing free throw by Cody Livesay.
Tylor Duckworth led A-J with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Wright added 15 points and 5 rebounds. Livesay had 8 points. Travis Smith and Dalton Baker added 5 points apiece and Jaden Ayers 3.
The Wildcats were 16 of 27 in shot attempts from the floor, 4 of 15 from 3-point range and 8 of 10 from the free throw line.
The Lions were 20 of 38 in shot attempts from the field, 2 of 5 from 3-point range and 14 of 16 from the charity stripe.
