Charlene “Toots” Powles

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Charlene “Toots” <span style=""> </span>Powles, 78, of<span style=""> </span> Tamms died <span style=""> </span>on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">She was born on May 27, 1933 in Chicago the daughter of Taft and Zethel (Vick) Cox.<span style=""> </span> She married Donald Hunter on October 25, 1952, he preceded her in death on August 18, 1981.<span style=""> </span> She married Howard Powles on July 4, 1985.<span style=""> </span> He survives her.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">She was a member of Tamms Methodist Church.<span style=""> </span> She had worked as head cashier at Tamms State Bank and then at Security Bank in Cairo where she also served on the board.<span style=""> </span> She had also worked as a bookkeeper at Beussink, Hey, Martin and Roe.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">She is survived by her husband, Howard; 1 daughter, Lisa Downs of Salem; 2 sons, Kerry Hunter of Du Quoin and Kyle Hunter of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; 2 step daughters, Sandra Terbrak of Dongola and Betty Powles of Anna; 2 step sons, Stanley Powles of Golconda and Jeff Powles of Tamms; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">She was preceded in death by her first husband, parents, 2 brothers, Michael Earl Cox and Bill Cox and grandson, Nicholas Downs on June 16, 2011.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Visitation will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 from 4-7PM at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.</span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11AM at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms with Rev. Brent Gordon officiating.<span style=""> </span> Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.<span style=""> </span></span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;"> </span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots and will be accepted at the funeral home.</span></strong></p>
