Christmas in Cobden
A wonderful Christmas holiday season tradition may have been born in a Union County community.
The first "Christmas in Cobden" celebration was held last weekend. Most of the activities took place on Saturday.
"Christmas in Cobden" included a live nativity scene, a chance to visit with Santa Claus, caroling, gingerbread houses, good food, crafts and many other activities.
One of the focal points of Saturday's celebration was the renovated "old feed store." New owners Rose and Ray Hogan have put many hours into bringing new life to a structure which has played an important role in the life of Cobden over the years.
Restoration of such structures as the "old feed store" and the nearby building which became the home of the Union County Museum in downtown Cobden is an important part of keeping our local heritage alive – and thriving.
Perhaps most important of all, the spirit of Christmas was in full bloom Saturday on a gloriously sunny, but cold, day.
Hundreds of people were in Cobden Saturday to be a part of the celebration. We heard many of those folks comment on how enjoyable the event was, and how they already were looking forward to next year's "Christmas in Cobden."
We commend all of those who made "Christmas in Cobden" such a big success. And we echo the sentiments of those who already are looking forward to next year's celebration.
