Christmas in Village planned Saturday in Cobden

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Cobden again is planning to celebrate the holiday spirit on Saturday, Dec. 6, when it hosts the sixth annual Christmas in the Village.  </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Christmas bazaars and open houses highlight a variety of events that climax with the lighting of a Christmas tree in the village’s downtown park.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Old Feed Store on Appleknocker Street plans to host an open house with arts and crafts and a hospitality table featuring Christmas treats along with other activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A 5K run/walk event is planned at 10 a.m. Registration is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. at The Old Feed Store.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Santa Claus and his elves plan to be at The Old Feed Store from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Hay rides are planned from noon to 4 p.m. Caroling is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">“A Child’s Christmas in Wales” by Dylan Thomas will be performed by Kevin Purcell beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is charged.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Bazaars featuring decorations, gifts, crafts and homemade treats will be featured at the Union County Museum’s General Store, the St. Joseph Catholic Church parish hall and other locations.  </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The church plans to serve soup and chili for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both bazaars open at 8 a.m. An art exhibit also is planned at the church event.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Union Congregational Church at 115 W. Ash St. plans to have an open house and nativity scenes exhibit from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will be presented with assistance from the Union County Historical and Genealogy Society. Live music is planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Apostolic Lighthouse Church at 432 Front St. plans to have an open house from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The First Baptist Church in Cobden plans to present a live nativity scene from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The nativity scene will be presented at the corner of West Maple and Appleknocker streets.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Illinois Migrant Council’s Technology Learning Center at 111 S. Appleknocker plans to have an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Christmas card making and other activities.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Cobden hosts a variety of unique shops and restaurants that will be open and celebrating the holiday season.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A pinata will be available at 4:30 p.m. in the park in downtown Cobden.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The celebration will close when Santa Claus will lead a walk from The Old Feed Store for the lighting of the Christmas tree at 5 p.m.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Union County Museum in downtown Cobden reminds shoppers that its annual bazaar is scheduled Dec. 6, 7 and 13.  The bazaar features Christmas decorations, gifts and other holiday items at reasonable prices.
