Christmas in Village scheduled in Cobden

Holiday season activities are scheduled to continue this weekend in Union County.

The fifth annual Christmas in the Village celebration is planned Saturday, Dec. 7, in Cobden.

The Old Feed Store along Appleknocker Drive in downtown Cobden plans to host an open house featuring a variety of activities, including free holiday treats and refreshments, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Santa Claus is scheduled to be at The Old Feed Store from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Goody bags will be given to children.

A Cobden Christmas 5K run/walk is planned at 10 a.m. The run/walk will start at The Old Feed Store. For more information about the event, call 833-5807.

Bazaars offering holiday decorations, gifts, crafts and homemade treats are planned at the Union County Museum, Apostolic Lighthouse Church and at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parish hall.

At St. Joseph, a variety of soups will be served for lunch.

The bazaars at the museum and at St. Joseph are scheduled to open at 8 a.m. The bazaar at the Apostolic Lighthouse is set to open at 8:30 a.m.

Christmas in the Village also is scheduled to feature village carolers, horse-drawn surrey rides, wagon rides, a live nativity scene, a Union County animal control meet and greet and other activities.

Most of the downtown Cobden businesses and restaurants plan to have special hours and open houses. The shops feature local art, crafts, jewelry, gifts and collectibles.

Santa and his helpers plan to walk from The Old Feed Store to the shelter at the park in downtown Cobden at 5 p.m. for the lighting of a Christmas tree. Caroling is planned before the lighting.

The Old Feed Store plans to present "A Child's Christmas in Wales" by Kevin Purcell at 6 p.m. Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for children.
