Cobden 48, Shawnee 35

Bekah Russell scored 18 points to lead three players in double-digit scoring in Cobden’s 48-35 win over host Shawnee in South Egyptian Conference high school girls’ basketball action Tuesday, Dec. 21.

It was the first loss of the season for the Lady Redskins, who fell to 7-1 overall. The Appleknockers improved to 5-1.

Kayla Quertermous added 16 points and Alysha Bottje 14 for all of Cobden’s scoring.

Kaylee Boston had 18 points to lead Shawnee. Reagan Brown added 7 points, Taylor Ellis 4 and Morgan Kennedy, Haley Murphy and Jordan Johnson 2 each.

Cobden led 15-7 after one quarter and 29-19 at the half. The Appleknockers built a 44-26 advantage headed into the final period.

Cobden plays in the Herrin tournament this week.
