Cobden girls go 1-4 at Herrin Tournament
The Cobden High School girls basketball team posted a 1-4 record in last week’s Herrin Holiday Tournament.
Du Quoin 50, Cobden 36: Kayla Quertermous scored 20 points to lead the Appleknockers in the opening round loss Monday, Dec. 27.
Bekah Russell added 11 points for Cobden, Alysha Bottje 3 and Jordyn Gray 2.
The Appleknockers built an 8-6 first quarter lead and were ahead 21-16 at the half. Cobden led 32-31 headed into the final period.
The Lady Indians came on to outscore the Appleknockers 19-4 in the final frame to post the come-from-behind-win.
Cobden 62, Murphysboro 45: The Appleknockers posted their lone win over the Lady Red Devils Tuesday, Dec. 28.
Quertermous led the way with 23 points. Russell added 15 points, Bottje had 9 points, Maria Piper 6, Devyn Inman 4, Jordyn Gray 3 and Ashley Millis 2.
The Appleknockers led 15-7 after one quarter and 32-18 at the half. Cobden led 47-32 going into the final period.
Pinckneyville 42, Cobden 38: Quertermous scored 17 points to lead Cobden in the loss Wednesday, Dec. 29.
Bottje added 8 points, Russell 5, Piper 4 and Inman and Grey 2 apiece.
The Lady Panthers led 13-11 after one quarter and 25-22 at the half. Pinckneyville led 34-32 going into the final period.
Herrin 47, Cobden 20: Cobden couldn’t recover from a bad second quarter on the loss in the final day of action Thursday, Dec. 30.
The Appleknockers trailed 13-9 after one quarter but were outscored 13-2 in the second quarter to trail 26-11 at the half. The Lady Tigers led 32-16 going into the final period.
Quertermous and Bottje had 6 points apiece to lead Cobden. Piper added 4 points, Russell 3 and Millis 1.
Vienna 53, Cobden 31: The Appleknockers couldn’t recover from a first quarter deficit in the loss in the final game Wednesday, Dec. 30.
The Lady Eagles led 16-8 after one quarter and 22-10 at the half. Vienna led 40-20 at the end of three periods.
Russell led Cobden with 18 points. Quertermous added 8 points, Grey and Piper 2 apiece and Bottje 1.
Cobden, 6-5, is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at Meridian and travels to Anna-Jonesboro Saturday.
