Cobden, Meridian win first-round SEC games
Cobden and Meridian won first-round action in the South Egyptian Conference high school boys’ basketball tournament at Cobden Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Cobden 71, Joppa 57: Rob Lehr scored 30 points to lead the Appleknockers. It was his 1,000th career point.
J.C. Chapman added 10 points, Josh Aspen 8, Tyler Lewey 7, Bo Gearhart 6 and Nathan Sweitzer, Garrett Marks, Austin Flamm and Travis Moore 2 each.
Cobden led 18-17 after one quarter and went on a 25-12 run in the second quarter to build a 43-28 lead at the half.
Cobden improved to 9-8 overall.
Meridian 88, Dongola 41: Jordan Eads scored 21 points to lead the Demons. Tyler Eddleman added 12 points, Clay Harris 3, Darin Gibson and Brad Ralls 2 apiece and Darius Schauer 1.
The Bobcats led 26-7 after one quarter and 51-12 at the half.
