Cobden scores win, Shawnee defeated in tournament action
The Cobden High School boys’ basketball team defeated Christopher 63-43 in second-round action of the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament Tuesday, Dec. 28.
Shawnee High School also was in action at Sesser-Valier.
Cobden 63, Christopher 44: The Appleknockers built a 27-19 first quarter lead and were ahead 37-28 at the half. Cobden led 47-28 going into the final period.
Rob Lehr led Cobden with 25 points. J.R. Chapman added 14 points, Bo Gearhart 13, Zach Moore 4, Austin Flamm, Josh Aspen and Sean Stadlebacher 2 apiece and R.J. Bridges 1.
Johnston City 50, Cobden 43: Lehr scored 15 points to lead Cobden in the loss Wednesday, Dec. 29.
Gearhart added 9 points, Flamm 5, Chapman 4, Moore and Tyler Lewey 3 each and Nathan Sweitzer and Aspen 2 each.
The Indians led 13-9 after one quarter and 23-17 at the half. Johnston City led 32-22 going into the final period.
Zeigler-Royalton 68, Shawnee 45: The Redskins were eliminated by the Tornadoes in tourney action Tuesday, Dec. 28.
Shawnee let a first half lead slip away in the third quarter.
The Redskins led 18-17 after one quarter and 30-28 at the half. The Tornadoes made a 19-3 run in the third quarter to build a 47-33 lead going into the final period.
Ty McMahan had 16 points to lead the Redskins. Dylan Smith added 12 points, Gary Pind 6, Andrew McMahan 5, Gavyn Ellet 3, Andrew Livesay 2 and Gage Shelton 1.
