County commissioners continue work on budget for 2010-2011

The Union County Board of Commissioners this week continued to work on a new budget.

The budget was the focus of discussion for a good portion of a regular meeting of the county board which was held Monday afternoon. The meeting was at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

The meeting also included an update on the construction of a new Union County courthouse.

County officials also shared information about the local animal control program.

The county commissioners and other officeholders are working on a new budget for the fiscal year which begins on Dec. 1.

Further talks about the budget are planned when the county board reconvenes at 4 p.m. Thursday, today, at the courthouse.

Courthouse Project

Work on architectural plans for the new county courthouse continues. Architects plan to meet with county officeholders on Nov. 10.

In other news related to the project:

Soil testing is planned either late this week or early next week as part of the construction process.

The Union County Historical Society is working with the county to catalog historical documents and artifacts at the courthouse.

Animal Control

The county reported that Brandi Wheeler and Derk Wright now are sharing duties as animal control officers.
