County officials take office on Dec. 3

Recently elected Union County officials are scheduled to take their oaths of office Monday morning, Dec. 3.

The oaths will be administered by Union County Judge Mark Boie.

The ceremony is set for 9 a.m. Monday in the courtroom on the second floor of the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

Those who will be taking their oaths of office include Union County Board of Commissioners members Richard Cunningham, Danny Hartline and Max Miller, coroner Phil Hileman, circuit clerk Lorraine Moreland and state's attorney Tyler R. Edmonds.

Monday's ceremony will be the last one of its kind held in the existing courthouse.

A new courthouse is under construction and will be in use when the next countywide election is held.

The ceremony will be special in another way, too.

Three men will take their oaths of office as members of the Union County Board of Commissioners.

The number of members on the county board has been expanded from three to five. The move was approved by voters. The county has had a three-member county board for many years.
