Couple apprehended in connection with alleged shooting incident in area
The Illinois State Police reported that two people had been taken into custody in connection with an alleged shooting incident which happened in Johnson County.
Illinois State Police Zone 7 Capt. Scott Rice reported that John L. Cunningham, 41, and his wife, Janet S. Cunningham, 43, were apprehended during the afternoon of Wednesday, Dec. 5.
The Cunninghams were taken into custody without incident by Kentucky State Police and U.S. Marshals near Madisonville, Ky.
Illinois State Police reported that an extensive manhunt for the two began late Monday night, Dec. 3, and led authorities to locations in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.
The Cunninghams were found at a truck stop near Madisonville. They were sleeping in a stolen pickup truck at the time.
The couple fled Southern Illinois Monday night, Dec. 3, after a male victim allegedly was shot during an incident which occurred in Johnson County.
The victim in the shooting was treated and released from a hospital.
State police identified both of the Cunninghams as convicted felons.
They were being held on Johnson County charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Additional charges were anticipated.
