Dongola takes third at SEC tournament Livesay nets 46 as Shawnee wins fifth-place game

Austin Hinkle scored 19 points to lead Dongola to a 62-57 win over Century for third place in the high school boys’ South Egyptian Conference Tournament played at Shawnee Community College near Ullin Saturday, Jan. 21.

“We played well,” Dongola coach Russ Marsh said. “It’s the first time in 12 years we’ve gotten a trophy in the tournament.”

Jordan Eads added 16 points for the Demons. Darius Schauer scored 9 points, Brock Patterson and Tyler Eddleman 8 each and Uriah Holmes 2.

Caden Hight scored 12 points to lead the Centurions. Chance Butler added 11 points.

The Demons led 12-7 after one quarter and 30-17 at halftime. Dongola led 45-30 heading into the final  period. The Centurions came on in the fourth quarter to outscore Dongola 28-19 but fell just short.

Josh Jones, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, scored 24 points to lead Meridian to a 65-55 win over Egyptian to claim the tournament title.

Shawnee 94, Century 57: Andrew Livesay scored a career-high 46 points to lead the Redskins to a win over Century in the fifth-place game.

Livesay, who was named to the all-tournament team, made 21 field goals and was 4 of 4 from the free throw line.

Austin Treece added 16 points for Shawnee. Aiden McMahan chipped in 14 points, Brandon Pind 9, Adam Pennington 7 and Jesse Ballance 2.

The Redskins led 19-7 after one quarter and 42-17 at halftime. Shawnee led 71-30 heading into the final period.
