Dongola youth in custody after Monday incident

A Union County youth was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, Feb. 22, after he was taken into custody in the aftermath of a violent domestic dispute which was followed by a pursuit which ended in Anna.

The youth, a 16-year-old Dongola boy, allegedly stabbed his mother and his ex-girlfriend's sister Monday evening.

Names of the boy and the victims were not being released by authorities as of early this week.

Both of the stabbing victims were transported by the Union County Ambulance Service to Union County Hospital in Anna for treatment.

Union County Sheriff David Livesay said that the mother, 38, was treated and released at the hospital Monday night. The girl, 15, was in stable condition and receiving treatment following the alleged attack.

The sheriff said the incidents happened at the homes of the boy and his mother and the ex-girlfriend's sister.

The boy allegedly stabbed his mother in the neck after the two of them got into an argument.

After the first incident, the boy drove to the home of the ex-girlfriend, where the second stabbing is alleged to have happened.

The boy then drove a small pickup truck which belonged to his mother north on U.S. Route 51 towards Anna. In the meantime, the mother had called Union County E-911 to report what had transpired.

Sheriff Livesay said the truck being driven by the boy was spotted by an Anna Police Department officer who was on patrol.

A pursuit involving the boy, the Anna Police Department and Union County Sheriff's Office began.

The boy led authorities on back streets in Anna before ending up on Orange Street, which is in a residential area, where a road  block was set up.

The boy eventually was stopped after he struck a sheriff's office deputy's squad car and then hit a tree. The deputy, and no other law enforcement personnel, were hurt during the pursuit.

After being stopped, the boy was taken into custody.  He was transferred to a juvenile detention center in Franklin County.

The sheriff said the boy would be facing juvenile charges in connection with the incident.

The sheriff's office squad car sustained about $4,000 in damage. The car was  able to be driven from the scene. The truck driven by the boy also was towed.
