Du Quoin defeats A-J on last-second shot

With 1.7 seconds remaining, Jamor Reed scored on a jump shot to lift Du Quoin to a 48-46 win over host Anna-Jonesboro in Southern Illinois River-to-River Mississippi Division high school boys' basketball Friday, Jan. 15.

Matt Gossett intercepted Jordan Adams' inbound pass to  preserve the win for the Indians.

The Wildcats appeared to be in control from the outset when they led 14-8 after one quarter and 26-17 at the half.

The Indians made a 18-6 run in the third quarter to build a 35-32 lead going into the final stanza.

Cody Livesay and Adams made a 3-pointer apiece in the final period to keep the Wildcats in striking distance.

Gabe Pecord knotted the game 46-46 on the traditional 3-point play before Reed's game-winning basket.

Jordan Adams led the Wildcats with 14 points and 5 rebounds.

A-J's J.R. Woodward, who didn't play the previous game because of an injury, ended with 9 points and 4 rebounds.

Pecord finished with 9 points. Livesay added 7 points. Brady Wright netted 4 points and 7 rebounds. Tylor Duckworth had 2 points and Jacob Brimm 1.

The Wildcats were 13 of 29 in shot attempts  from the field, 5 of 9 from 3-point range and 5 of 8 from the free throw line.

Gossett had 15 points to lead the Indians, who were 16 of 28 in shot attempts  from the floor, 3 of 15 from 3-point range and 7 of 11 from the charity stripe.

A-J fell to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference with the heartbreaking loss.
