Filing ends for primary election
Filing of nominating petitions by candidates who plan to run in the 2012 Union County primary election ended Monday, Dec. 5.
The primary election is set for March 20, 2012.
The filing period began at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28.
Petitions were filed at the Union County clerk's office in the courthouse at Jonesboro.
The following Union County offices will be on the primary election ballot:
Three positions on the Union County Board of Commissioners, circuit clerk, coroner, state's attorney and precinct committeemen posts in all 20 of the county's precincts.
The county board is expanding from three to five members in 2012.
Those who have filed nominating petitions are named below by the office they are seeking:
County commissioner, position A, six-year term:
Danny Hartline, Cobden, Democrat.
Jack Sensmeier, Anna, Democrat.
County commissioner, position D, six-year term:
Mike Yates, Anna, Democrat.
Fred Crews, Anna, Democrat.
Wayne Brown, Dongola, Democrat.
All three candidates filed their nominating petitions simultaneously on Nov. 28.
Since they all filed at the same time, Union County Clerk Bobby Toler Jr. conducted a lottery to determine the candidates' positions on the primary election ballot. The lottery was conducted Tuesday morning at the county clerk's office.
Brown won the lottery and will appear first on the ballot. Yates will appear second, and then Crews.
County commissioner, position E, four-year term:
Richard Cunningham, Jonesboro, Democrat.
Walter L. Jackson, Dongola, Republican.
Union County state's attorney:
Tyler Edmonds, Anna, Democrat. Edmonds is an incumbent.
Union County circuit clerk:
Lorraine Moreland, Cobden, Democrat. Moreland is an incumbent.
Union County coroner:
Phil Hileman, Jonesboro, Democrat.
Beverly Bolanowski, Anna, Republican.
Roy Walker, Jonesboro, Republican.
