Gerald Roy Dexter

<p style="margin-left: 0.5in; text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 115%;" class="MsoNormal"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">Gerald Roy Dexter 75, of Montgomery, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich, Illinois.<span style=""> </span> Gerald, always called “Jerry” or “Dex” was born on May 22, 1935 in Flint, Michigan to Roy and Dorothy McLeod Dexter. The family relocated to Ullin, Illinois in 1946.<span style=""> </span> In 1957, he married Margaret Smith, daughter of Cecil and Lucille Smith of Cobden, Illinois.<span style=""> </span></span></strong></p>

<p style="margin-left: 0.5in; text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 115%;" class="MsoNormal"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">Jerry’s bride of 53 years, Margaret Dexter continues to reside in the family home located in Montgomery, Illinois.<span style=""> </span> Their union produced three children which multiplied into twenty-six.<span style=""> </span> He is survived by 3 children, Steve Dexter and wife Shari of Plano, Illinois; Sheri (Dexter) Madison and husband John of Strunk, Kentucky; and Mike Dexter and wife Diane of Burlington, Illinois; 8 grandchildren,<span style=""> </span> Justin Jefferson and wife Mindy of Alhambra, Illinois; Jessica Storlie and husband Brian of Janesville, Wisconsin; Nicole Klatt and husband Kyle, Maggie Dexter, and Stevie Dexter (II) who all reside in Plano, Illinois; Amy Dexter, Chad Dexter, and Jeremy Dexter who reside in Burlington, Illinois; 9 great-grandchildren, Cody, Jake, Kaylee, Alyssa, Ada, Annabelle, Titus, Lukas, and Olivia; 1 brother, Ronnie Dexter who resides in California; and 1 sister, Karen Dexter of Marion, IL.<span style=""> </span> Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Dorothy McLeod Dexter; brothers, James Dexter of Jonesboro, and Richard Dexter of Anna.<span style=""> </span></span></strong></p>

<p style="margin-left: 0.5in; text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 115%;" class="MsoNormal"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">Jerry always knew how to live life to the fullest, and was an avid fisherman.<span style=""> </span> In his healthier days, he enjoyed bowling, camping, and just getting together with the “boys” for an afternoon of fun shooting targets with his bow.<span style="">  </span> He especially loved watching and spoiling his grandchildren and tutoring his wife, daughter-in-laws, and granddaughters in math as they earned their nursing degrees.<span style=""> </span> In the more recent years, the spoiling cycle has been repeated with great-grandchildren.</span></strong></p>

<p style="margin-left: 0.5in; text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 115%;" class="MsoNormal"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">Jerry attended school in Ullin, graduating in 1953 as Valedictorian of his high school class.<span style=""> </span> He completed one year of college then shifted his interests to the Air Force joining the Aim High team in 1954.<span style=""> </span> Jerry spent the majority of his career days working for Caterpillar as a machinist/Quality Control Specialist in Aurora, Illinois; the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Correctional Officer/Lieutenant in Marion, Illinois and Oxford, Wisconsin, and Daco Manufacturing located in Aurora, Illinois providing Quality Control services.<span style="">  </span></span></strong></p>

<p style="margin-left: 0.5in; text-indent: 0.5in; line-height: 115%;" class="MsoNormal"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">Funeral services for Mr. Gerald Roy Dexter will be held at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden, Illinois at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011 with the Rev. Richard Pearce officiating.<span style=""> </span> Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery.<span style=""> </span> Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.<span style=""> </span> Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.</span></strong></p>
