Harley “Toad” McCrite

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Harley “Toad” McCrite, 87, of Olive Branch, died at 3:13 AM Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">He was born in Diswood, IL to Harley and Pansy (McKee) McCrite on August 4, 1923.<span style=""> </span> He married Ethel Bridges on February 8, 1947.<span style=""> </span> She survives him.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">He served his country honorably in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.<span style=""> </span> In World War II he served as a storekeeper in parts of occupation done in Japan.<span style=""> </span> In Korean War he also served as a storekeeper.<span style=""> </span> He worked as a parts man for Warden’s Ford in Cairo and later for Pete Thomas Ford in Cairo and then for Ford Groves in Cape. He then was employed by Foster Implements in Olive Branch, for the last 14 years of his career he worked for Bunge where he then retired.<span style=""> </span> He also served on the first Egyptian school board.<span style=""> </span> He loved his horses, and for many years he was a member of the Olive Branch Saddle Club.<span style=""> </span> Harley was a member of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">He survived by his wife, Ethel;</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">1 son, Mike (Janelle) McCrite of Olive Branch;</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">1 grandson, Nicholas McCrite of Cape Girardeau, MO;</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">1 sister, Jeanie Mae Zimmerman of Frankfort;</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">3 brothers, Raymond McCrite of Tamms, Earl McCrite and Paul McCrite of Florence, AL;</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Nieces, nephews and other relatives.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">He preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Georgia Malone and Ethel Honey and 2 brothers John and William McCrite.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00PM Sunday, December 26, 2010 and 8:00-10:30AM on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Sandy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Kirk officiating.<span style=""> </span> Interment will be in McCrite Cemetery with military honors will be accorded by area veterans.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style=""> </span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Memorial contributions can be made to McCrite Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.</span></p>
