The Southern Illinois University Carbondale football Salukis finished their 2012 season with a 35-0 home victory against Western Illinois.

Former Anna-Jonesboro Community player Rik Hicks helped contribute to the third touchdown of the game and scored the last TD of the season for the Salukis.

In the third quarter, Steve Strother ran for 43 yards down to the 22 line.  Then Strother added 9 more yards on the second down to get to the 13 yard line.

On 4th and 1, Hicks ran to catch a pass from Kory Faulkner on the 13 yard line and then carried the ball toward the end zone before he was forced out of bounds at the 1 yard line.

Hicks then blocked for Mika’il McCall when the Salukis scored their third touchdown of the game. With the TD and extra point, SIUC was up 21-0.

In the fourth quarter, former Du Quoin player AJ Hill handed the ball to Steve Strother, who drove the ball to the 3 yard line.

That set up the next play for Rik Hicks to do his job as Salukis secret weapon.

Hill threw a pass to Hicks, who ran the ball into the endzone.

Hicks scored the Salukis’ last touchdown of the 2012 season.

The Nov. 17 game was Salukis Senior Day and Blackout Cancer day.

SIUC players wore black jerseys for Blackout Cancer. Hicks’ jersey number 44 was among the top 80 bids which placed the name of the bidder on the back of their chosen player’s jersey.

The funds raised in the bidding for players’ jerseys were donated toward the fight against cancer.

The Salukis finished their season with a 6-5 overall record. SIUC was 5-3 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
