Holiday brings heavy rain, strong winds, light snow
Heavy rain, high winds and light snow highlighted the Union County area's weather during the past week.
Some areas in the region received nearly 5 inches of rain on Christmas Eve.
In Union County, just over 3 inches of precipitation was measured.
The heavy rain gave way to colder temperatures and snow showers on Christmas Day.
A light dusting of snow allowed some people in the region to experience a white Christmas.
The National Weather Service forecast office at Paducah reported that a strong storm system moved through the region on Christmas Eve.
The storm produced strong gusts of up to 45 miles per hour, along with some flooding problems due to heavy rainfall.
The strong winds continued on Christmas Day and through the weekend.
Rainfall amounts for the period from late on Dec. 23 through early morning on Dec. 25 included 4.94 inches in Poplar Bluff, Mo., 3.51 inches in Cape Girardeau, 2.67 inches in Carbondale and 2.08 inches in Paducah.
Precipitation in Anna measured 1.85 inches on Dec. 24 and 1.22 inches, including a trace of snow, on Dec. 25.
Other recent precipitation measured in Anna included a trace on Dec. 19, a trace on Dec. 20, .02 of an inch Dec. 22, a trace on Dec. 23 and .20 of an inch Dec. 26.
