Homer Gene Farmer

MSgt. Homer Gene Farmer passed away on Dec. 11, 2010, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He was born on July 14, 1932, in Marion, to Homer R. and Irene (Turley) Farmer.

Gene enlisted in the Army after graduating from Hurst High School and fought in the Korean War. After discharge from the Army, he enlisted in the Air Force and retired after serving 25 years.

He married Virginia Sue Koch on March 9, 1966. Together they raised six children.

He is survived by his wife and children, Georgia Koch, Paul Koch, Merlin Farmer, Rhonda Thomas, Micki Ellett, and Michelle Isaacs.

Gene and Sue have 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by two sisters, Ida and Judith.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gene loved his family and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in his garden with his sweet Emily. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

A private celebration of Gene’s life will be held by the family on Christmas Eve.

Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale is in charge of arrangements.
