Hospital district auxiliary holiday lights, ornaments scholarship event set

Union County Hospital District Auxiliary is planning to begin the sale of Christmas lights and ornaments Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Lights are $1 and ornaments are $25 each.

Donations will be posted on a scholarship tree that will be displayed at Union County Hospital Anna.

Lights and ornaments can be designated in honor of, or in memory of, someone in the donor's family, or "a special someone in your life."

Donations will help the auxiliary to award a $1,000 scholarship to someone in the community who is continuing her or his education in the health care field.

First priority is always given to a hospital employee, or a family member, to encourage furthering of their education.

The 2009 scholarship was presented to Andrea Capel, daughter of hospital employee Toni Capel.

Andrea is enrolled in the physician assistant program at Southern Illinois University.

The auxiliary notes that the generosity of the community in supporting the scholarship program will allow the organization "to continue this worthwhile project and help someone else in our community to continue their education and add to the dedicated number of healthcare professionals for our area."

Donations can be sent to: Scholarship Tree, c/o Union County Hospital District Auxiliary, 517 N. Main St., Anna, Ill. 62906.

Donations also are accepted at the gift shop at the hospital in Anna from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Membership in the hospital district auxiliary is $5 a year for an individual. A life membership is $100.

Membership information also is available at the hospital gift shop.
