A-J defeats Carterville at Mid-Winter Classic
Brady Wright scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Anna-Jonesboro to a 60-44 opening round win over Carterville in the high school boys’ basketball Mid-Winter Classic at West Frankfort Monday, Jan. 18.
J.R. Woodward added 14 points and a rebound for the Wildcats.
Tylor Duckworth netted 13 points and had 3 rebounds. Travis Smith had 6 points, Jordan Adams 2 and Jacob Brimm and Gabe Pecord 1 apiece.
“We had a little size advantage,” A-J coach Rob Wright said. “And, we did a good job of taking it inside.”
The Wildcats were ahead 14-12 after one quarter and 29-22 at the half.
A-J made a 17-11 run in the third quarter to take a 46-33 advantage headed into the final period.
A-J, which improved to 9-9, was to have played Eldorado on Wednesday.
The Wildcats play host to West Frankfort at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Saturday at 2 p.m., A-J takes on Johnston City and Herrin at 9 p.m.
