A-J defeats Eldorado in holiday tournament action

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys’ basketball team split in action last week at the Eldorado Holiday Tournament.

Gallatin County 70, A-J 36: The Hawks’ 6-foot-11-inch Andrew Drone scored 25 points and had 15 rebounds to lead his squad over the Wildcats Saturday, Dec. 29.

Tyler Vaughn led A-J with 12 points and 2 rebounds. Damian Reed and Ben McFarland each had 9 points and 2 rebounds.

Zach Parr had 4 points and 5 rebounds. Noah Fuller had 2 points and 3 rebounds. Jay Kemp added a rebound.

The Hawks led 20-7 after the first quarter and 35-15 at halftime. Gallatin County led 60-30 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats shot 14 of 55 from the field. They were 2 of 7 from 3-point range, 12 of 48 from 2-point range and 6 of 14 from the free throw line.

Gallatin County shot 26 of 49 from the field. They were 9 of 22 from 3-point range, 17 of 27 from 2-point range and 9 of 12 from the free throw line.

A-J 65, Eldorado 61: Parr had 19 points and 3 rebounds to lead the Wildcats to the win Friday, Dec. 28.

Vaughn added 12 points and 11 rebounds, Fuller had 11 points and 3 rebounds and Reed and McFarland each had 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Colton James scored 5 points and Kemp had 2 points and 5 rebounds.

The Wildcats shot 26 of 57 from the field. They were 3 of 9 from 3-point range, 23 of 48 from 2-point range and 10 of 21 from the free throw line.

Eldorado shot 22 of 52 from the field. They were 4 of 16 from 3-point range, 18 of 36 from 2-point range and 13 of 19 from the free throw line.

A-J was scheduled to play Herrin earlier this week in semifinal tournament action.
