A-J falls to Carterville, posts win over Century

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys’ basketball team posted a 1-1 record in games played last week.

Carterville 49, A-J 42: The host Wildcats fell behind early in a Southern Illinois River-to-River Misssippi Division Conference loss Friday, Jan. 11.

The Lions led 12-6 after the first quarter and 20-15 at halftime. The Wildcats fought back to take a 31-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Tyler Vaughn had 15 points and 3 rebounds to lead A-J. Zach Parr added 13 points and 5 rebounds, Ben McFarland 6 points and 9 rebounds and Colton James had 3 points.

Damian Reed had 2 points and 6 rebounds, Noah Fuller 2 points and 3 rebounds and Jay Jemp 1 point and 3 rebounds.

The Wildcats shot 50 percent (16 of 32) from the field. They were 3 of 12 from 3-point range, 13-20 from 2-point range and 7 of 14 from the free throw line.

The Lions shot 38 percent (19 of 50) from the field. They were 4 of 14 from 3-point range, 15 of 36 from 2-point range and 5 of 13 from the free throw line.

A-J 71, Century 58: Fuller led host A-J in the win with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the non-conference game Tuesday, Jan. 8.

McFarland added 14 points and 6 rebounds, Vaughn 11 points and Reed 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Parr had 9 points and 2 rebounds, Noah Prater 5 points and a rebound, Kemp 2 points and 4 rebounds and James 2 points.

The Wildcats shot 52 percent (27 of 52) from the field. They were 2 of 13 from 3-point range, 25 of 39 from 2-point range and 15 of 25 from the free throw line.

The Centurions shot 41 percent (19 of 46) from the field. They were 5 of 14 from 3-point range, 14 of 32 from 2-point range and 15 of 23 from the free throw line.

A-J, 3-12 for the season, is scheduled to play this week at the Mid-Winter Classic in West Frankfort.
