A-J girls win twice

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team won a pair of Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division games in recent action.

A-J 50, Chester 26: Jessi Stone poured in 26 points to lead the host Lady Wildcats to the win Thursday, Dec. 15.

Kim Mixen added 8 points for A-J, followed by Brooke Chamness 5, Katie Grant 4, Valerie Pender 3, Krista Pender 2 and Natty Hepburn and Balyie Denny 1 each.

A-J built a 12-0 first quarter lead and led 29-7 at halftime.

A-J 50, Sparta 39: Stone scored 23 points to lead host A-J to the win Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Mixen netted 18 points for A-J, followed by Chamness 7 and Valerie Pender 2.

The Lady Wildcats were ahead 15-9 after one quarter and 25-18 at halftime. A-J led 35-26 after three periods.

A-J, 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the league, plays Thursday, today, at Nashville.
