A-J wrestling team competes at Litchfield
Daniel Heath finished in third place to lead the Anna-Jonesboro High school wrestling team at the Litchfield Tournament Saturday, Jan. 30.
Heath, wrestling in the 112-pound class, decisioned Lena Winslow’s Dustin Dapeau 6-4 before losing to Vandalia’s Justin Hill. He decisioned Chatham Glenwood’s Brashear Douglas 13-8 in the third-place match.
Brandon Cerney, 135 pounds, finished in fourth place. He decisioned Whitfield, Missouri’s, E.M. Story 4-2 and was decisioned by West Frankfort’s Gavin Reson 6-3. In the third-place match, he lost by an injury default to Mt. Olive’s Eric Fuller.
Preston Brimm, 145 pounds, finished in sixth place. Brimm was pinned by Roxana’s Tyler Floy before winning by an injury default over Vandalia’s Brandon Knut. He decisioned Lena Winslow’s Dakota Lane before losing to Mt. Olive’s Patrick Flory in the fifth place match.
Andrew McMahan, 152 pounds, finished in sixth place. He decisioned Hillsboro’s Jordan Flowers 8-1 and lost to Vandalia’s Alex Foster. He decisioned Roxana’s Rigby Hubbard 6-2 and Rochester’s Connor Cook 6-3 before losing in the fifth place match by a decision to Pinckneyville’s Thomas Medina.
Brett Turner, 171 pounds, finished in sixth place. He pinned Hillsboro’s Brad Wilsher in 4:40 and was pinned by Rochester’s Shane Holtz. He pinned Carlinville’s Joe Birdcell before losing in the fifth place match to Lena Winslow’s Peter Grinke.
Taylor Fitzgerald, 189 pounds, finished 2-2. He pinned Carlinville’s Zack Brunch in :48 and pinned Harrisburg’s Joe Catone in :55.
Chase Hargrave, 140 pounds, finished 2-2. He decisioned Mt. Olive’s Christian Schland 4-0 and pinned Augustine’s Brock Pickle in :28.
Alez Gonzalez, 285 pounds, finished 1-2. He pinned Carlinville’s Jordan Oged in 1:06.
A-J, 16-4 in dual match competition, is scheduled to compete in the regional tournament this weekend at Murphysboro.
