Jonesboro girls improve to 12-2
Jonesboro went 3-1 in recent junior high school girls’ basketball action.
Jonesboro 44, Lick Creek 34: Jamie Hammond scored 22 points, pulled down 19 rebounds and blocked 6 shots to lead visiting Jonesboro to the win Tuesday, Dec. 6.
Jaycee Pender added 12 points, 5 assists, 3 steals and a blocked shot. Madi Calhoun had 13 rebounds and 2 assists and Aliah Delgado added 2 assists.
Pender scored 10 points, had 3 assists and a blocked shot to lead Jonesboro to a 37-15 win over Lick Creek in the junior varsity game.
Hailley Abernathy had 9 points and 14 rebounds, Breezy Pollard had 6 points and 6 steals and DaKota Hileman had 6 points and 7 rebounds. Casey Akers had 4 steals and Lexi Tripp had 2 assists.
Jonesboro 40, Creal Springs 22: Calhoun scored 14 points, had 3 steals and a blocked shot to lead host Jonesboro to the win Monday, Dec. 5.
Pender added 12 points, 5 steals and a blocked shot. Delgado, Jody Brown and Megan Silliman each had 7 rebounds. Hammond and Calhoun each blocked a shot.
Pender had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists to lead Jonesboro to a 36-8 win over Creal Springs in the junior varsity game. Amy Glasco added 5 points and 9 rebounds. Lexi Smith had 4 steals and Payton Alsip and Breezy Pollard 3 apiece. Smith had 2 assists and Hailley Abernathy had 2 blocked shots.
Jonesboro 63, Meridian 29: Pender had 20 points, 5 steals and 4 assists to lead Jonesboro to a third place finish at the Southern Illini Conference Tournament played in Cobden Thursday, Dec. 1.
Calhoun added 20 points and Hammond had 11 rebounds. Taylor Smith had 3 assists and 2 steals and Brown had 2 steals.
Cobden 49, Jonesboro 42: Pender scored 16 points and added 3 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots to lead Jonesboro in the loss in first-round action of the tourney Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Smith had 10 points, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots. Hammond had 10 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Delgado had 3 assists.
The Jonesboro varsity is 12-2 overall and the junior varsity is 8-3.
