Junior Wildcat wrestlers compete in tournaments

The Junior Wildcat wrestlers competed in several holiday wrestling tournaments during December.

“We’re always glad to see wrestlers and parents willing to go on the road for the team during the busy Christmas season,” said club president Rollie Hawk.

“We’ll have a lot of local tournaments in the coming weeks and there’s no better preparation than keeping that body moving and continuing to improve skills during the holidays.”

The Junior Wildcat wrestlers competed at the Steel City Nationals in Granite City, Dec. 30; the Dixie Nationals in Atlanta, Ga., Dec. 29; at both the Murphysboro Beginners Bash and USA Tomahawk Challenge in Jackson, Mo., Dec. 22; and at the four-team middle school meet at Paducah, Dec. 20.

Drew Sadler, age 6, finished first at the Steel City Nationals in the 44.8 pound class. Twin sister Zoee Sadler, 6, finished third in the 41.2 pound division.

Three Wildcat grapplers captured firsts at the Tomahawk Challenge.

Drew Sadler was named the outstanding wrestler in the 6-year-old division of the 44.8 pound class; Blake Mays, 8, won the 63.8 pound division and Collin Hall, 11, 180.2 pounds.

Four wrestlers finished second at Jackson: Zoee Sadler, 6, 41.2 pounds; Brett Smith, 7, 54.8 pounds; Madilyn Hawk, 8, 96.6 pounds; and Nathan Kisat, 11, 75 pounds.

Caleb Mays, 7, finished third in the 54.8 pound class.

Fourth place finishes at Jackson were recorded by Evan Hall, 6, 43.2 pounds; Kaden Lincoln, 7, 68 pounds; Dylan Smith, 10, 62 pounds; and Catie Mays, 12, 86.4 pounds.

Four Junior Wildcat wrestlers finished first at the Murphysboro Beginners Bash: Clayton Smith, 6, 84.4 pounds; Chad Myers, 8, 111 pounds; Avery Goines, 10, 91.6 pounds and Bryce Bowers, 10, 133 pounds.

Second place finishes at Murphysboro were recorded by Dakoda Merideth, 4, 42.8 pounds; Kane Buchmeir, 6, 55.4 pounds; Daniel Adams, 6, 57.2 pounds; Keegan Keller, 9, 105.4 pounds; and Aiden Jacobs, 12, 88 pounds.

Third place finishers were Logan Abernathy, 6, 64.2 pounds; and Bryce Henderson, 13, 90.2 pounds.

Fourth place finishers were Jacy Mays, 10, 80.2 pounds; and Adam Mays, 10, 94.6 pounds.

Two Junior Wildcat wrestlers won at Paducah: Clayton Ramage, 12, 80 pounds; and Nick Jimenez, 14, 258.8 pounds.
