Junior Wildcat Wrestling Club opens season at Herrin
The A-J Junior Wildcat Wrestling Club opened its season with two wins in a tournament at Herrin Saturday, Dec. 2.
First-place finishers for the Wildcats were Drew Sadler in the 6&U age group, 42.0-pound weight class and Chad Myers in the 7-8 age group, 108.6 pound class.
Recording second place finishes for A-J were Caleb Mays, 7&8, 54.2 pounds; Kaden Lincoln 7&8, 68.2 pounds; Blake Mays, 7&8, 62.0 pounds, Madilyn Hawk, 7&8, 95.6 pounds; Jeff Fombelle, 13-14, 112.4 pounds; Logan Jerolds, 13-14, 111.4 pounds; and Nick Jimenez, 13&14, 258 pounds.
Third-place finishes for A-J were recorded by Milam Smith, 6&U, 57.2 pounds; Brett Smith, 7&8, 54.6 pounds; Avery Goines, 9&10, 92.6 pounds; Nathan Kisat, 11&12, 74.6 pounds; Clayton Ramage, 11&12, 80.0 pounds; Catie Mays, 11&12, 85.0 pounds; Bryce Henderson, 13&14, 89.4 pounds; Caiden Stone, 13&14, 112.4 pounds.
“We would have liked to have placed a little higher,” coach Rollie Hawk said, “but as they say, it’s not where you start but where you finish that counts.
“Out of 25 kids, we had 17 wrestlers that placed third or higher. That tells me we have a competitive group with plenty of room for improvement.”
The Junior Wildcats are scheduled to host a tournament at the Anna-Jonesboro Community High School gymnasium Sunday, Dec. 16.
