Lady Wildcats fall to Vienna, Marion
Vienna had a big third quarter on its way to a 66-46 win over host Anna-Jonesboro in non-conference high school girls’ basketball Saturday, Dec. 4.
The Lady Eagles led 16-15 after one quarter and 26-24 at the half. Vienna outscored the Lady Wildcats 24-8 in the third quarter to lead 50-32 going into the final period.
“That third quarter killed us,” A-J coach Brian Clark said. “We couldn’t recover.”
Destiny Dillow had 20 points to lead A-J. Chandra Parr added 7 points, Erica Friebel 6, Emma Basler 5, Valerie Pender 4 and Jessi Stone and Kim Mixen 2 apiece.
Marion 47, A-J 38: The Lady Wildcats were outscored 13-6 in the final quarter in the loss to visiting Marion Thursday, Dec. 2.
A-J trailed 14-9 after one quarter and fought back to pull ahead 23-21 at the half.
“We didn’t protect our lead,” Clark said. “But our kids played hard, they played really well. We’ve just got to keep working. Every loss we learn something.”
Marion pulled ahead 33-32 going into the final period.
Stone had 15 points to lead A-J. Dillow added 8 points, Parr 7 and Basler and Friebel 4 apiece.
A-J, 3-4, is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at West Frankfort.
