Lady Wildcats score win over Marion, fall to Nashville

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team split in recent action.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1"><strong>A-J 49, Marion 41:</strong> Elle Basler scored 15 points, had 8 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a block to lead the host Lady Wildcats to the win Thursday, Dec. 3.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Lexa Sharp had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Connar Hadley had 8 points, 6 rebounds, an assist and a steal. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Sydney Heath had 5 points, 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Lexi Smith had 4 points, a rebound and a steal. Jasmin Foster had 3 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. Angel Helm had 2 points and 2 rebounds.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1"> A-J was ahead 15-13 after one quarter and pulled ahead 31-17 at the half. The Lady Wildcats led 37-28 going into the final quarter.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A-J coach Matt Denny noted that the Lady Wildcats went on a 21-0 run from the end of the first quarter through most of the second stanza.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">“That shows our ability, we just have to be more consistent,” Denny said.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1"><strong>Nashville 46, A-J 37:</strong> The host Lady Hornets went on a 10-4 first quarter run, but the Lady Wildcats fought back to pull to 17-15 at the half in a game played Wednesday, Dec. 2. Nashville led 30-21 going into the final period.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">“We played better against a young but very experienced Nashville team,” Denny said. “We didn’t rebound well at all on the defensive end. But we are improving every day, and that’s the main thing right now.”</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Basler had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals to lead the way for A-J.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Hadley added 11 points, 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Sharp had 9 points, (three 3-pointers), 3 rebounds and an assist. Smith had 2 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. Helm had 2 points and a rebound. Foster had a point, a rebound, an assist and 2 steals.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A-J, 3-3, is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at home against West Frankfort.</span></p>
