Lady Wildcats struggle at Benton tournament
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team struggled at the Rangerette Christmas Classic last week.
Hamilton County 53, A-J 14: The Lady Wildcats fell behind 15-5 in the first quarter and couldn’t catch up in the loss in their final tournament game Saturday, Dec. 29.
Kim Mixen and Balyie Denny each scored 6 points to lead A-J. Katie Grant and Brooke Chamness each added 1 point.
Carterville 69, A-J 45: Mixen scored 18 points to lead the Lady Wildcats in a loss in the early game Saturday.
Grant added 9 points, Chamness 7 and Cara Farris 6. Denny and Krista Pender each scored 2 points and Sammy Brimm 1.
The Lady Lions led 16-2 after the first quarter and 34-12 at halftime.
Goreville 63, A-J 45: Mixen scored 22 points to lead A-J in the loss Friday, Dec. 28. Chamness added 16 points, Farris 5 and Pender 2.
The Lady Blackcats led 12-4 after the first quarter and 33-21 at halftime.
Trico 42, A-J 36: Mixen scored 18 points to lead A-J in the loss in the early game Friday.
Pender added 9 points, Grant and Chamness 4 each and Farris 1.
The Lady Pioneers led 8-7 after the first quarter and 16-11 at halftime. Trico built a 33-20 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Wildcats outscored Trico 16-9 in the fourth quarter but fell just short in their come-from-behind effort.
A-J is scheduled to play again Thursday, today, at home against Goreville.
