Lick Creek girls win regional, advance to state tournament
The host Lick Creek School junior high girls’ basketball team defeated Buncombe-Cypress 45-35 to win a Class S regional championship Saturday, Jan. 12.
Madison Root scored 18 points to lead Lick Creek to the win. She scored 15 of 18 points in the first half. She also had 4 rebounds and 6 steals.
Elle Basler added 11 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals.
Morgan Dillow had 10 points, 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Brooke Miller had 3 points, 2 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Makenzie Chaney had 2 points. Bailey Hooks had a point, 5 steals, 3 rebounds and an assist.
Lick Creek posted its 22nd consecutive win with the regional championship game victory.
The Lady Eagles are 22-1 this season and will play Summersville Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Class S state tournament at Rend Lake College near Ina. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
“We would appreciate all the fan support we can get” at state, Lick Creek coach Matt Denny said.

Dillow led Lick Creek with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist.
Basler added 10 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and a blocked shot.
Root had 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Brooke Miller added 4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Alivia Miller had 4 points, 2 steals and a rebound.
Hooks had 4 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Heidi Mitchell had 2 points, 2 steals and a rebound.
