Lick Creek girls win sixth consecutive conference championship
The Lick Creek School girls’ basketball team defeated host Buncombe/Cypress to win the Egyptian Conference junior high school girls’ basketball tournament Thursday, Nov. 29.
With the victory, Lick Creek earned its sixth consecutive conference tournament title.
Lick Creek 35, Buncombe/Cypress 23: Elle Basler scored 13 points and had 8 rebounds, 9 steals and 6 assists to lead Lick Creek to the championship game win.
Morgan Dillow added 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Hunter Denny had 5 points and 3 rebounds.
Brooke Miller had 3 points, 5 rebounds and 8 steals. Heidi Mitchell had 2 points and 7 rebounds. Madison Root had 2 points and 7 rebounds.
Lick Creek 38, St. Andrew’s (Murphysboro) 18: Basler led the Lady Eagles with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in the semifinal game win Tuesday, Nov. 27.
Root added 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Dillow had 8 points, 4 rebounds and a steal. Miller had 4 points, 3 steals and 2 rebounds.
Alivia Miller had 2 points and a rebound. Denny had 6 rebounds and a steal. Mitchell had 4 rebounds.
Lick Creek, 10-1, is scheduled to play at Dongola Monday, Dec. 10, and at home against Herrin on Thursday, Dec. 13.
