Lick Creek wins conference title
Lick Creek defeated St. Andrews of Murphysboro 35-17 to win the Egyptian Junior High School girls’ basketball conference championship at Cypress Thursday, Dec. 2.
It was the fourth straight conference title for Lick Creek.
Balyie Denny led the way with 13 points, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range. Elle Basler added 10 points, Ashley Donaho 6, Lauren George 2 and Hannah Schlenker and Kennedy Sturgeon 1 apiece.
Lick Creek 41, New Simpson Hill 28: Sturgeon had 12 points to lead Lick Creek in the second-round tournament win Tuesday, Nov. 30. Lick Creek had a bye in first-round action.
Denny added 11 points. Schlenker had 8 points, Basler 6 and Donaho and George 2 apiece.
In regular season action:
Lick Creek 44, Joppa/Maple Grove 24: Host Lick Creek built a 30-6 halftime lead on its way to the win Thursday, Dec. 3.
Basler led the way with 12 points. Schlenker added 8 points, Denny and Sturgeon 7 apiece, Donaho 6 and George 2.
Lick Creek 29, Giant City 26: Basler scored 9 points to lead visiting Lick Creek to the win Nov. 22.
Denny added 8 points, Sturgeon 6, George 2 and Schlenker 1.
Jefferson 49, Lick Creek 16: Donaho had 6 points to lead visiting Lick Creek in the loss Nov. 18.
Sturgeon and Basler added 4 points apiece and Sierra Miller 2.
Lick Creek improved to 10-2 overall.
